The DPRK has recently published a novel of long true story, “I am alive” (written by In Hun, Kumsong Youth Publishing House).
The story is truthfully describing the life of Inoue Shuhachi, the honoured professor of Rikkyo University of Japan who was the IIJI director-general (now honored director-general, IIJI).
The tearful childhood of Inoue Shuhachi who was destined to be an orphan, the story that he, who had once been a suicide pilot of “Kamikaje”, was rescued by the defeat of Japan, the arduous course in which he worked one’s way through university to become a Doctor of Economics, etc. give much impressions to the readers.
The hero loves his country Japan more than others. That’s why he genuinely wants the social progress of new Japan in the defeated land, and strives to become a true son of the country who realizes the ideal of the Japanese people.
He is absorbed in reading the economic doctrine of Marxism in order to analyze the essence of the capitalist society of sporting man’s destiny because he thinks the cause of tragedy that brought his family to ruin and the root cause of war lie in economic inequality of the world.
However, the more he continues his thinking and writing, the deeper he finds himself into self-contradiction.

What is the answer to these?
He studied thoroughly the propositions of preceding classics, but he could not find any correct answers to the questions of the present era with the materialistic view on history of Marx who clarified that the productive mode of material wealth is decisive factor of deciding the level of social development.
The hero was so anxious to have the truth in his hard experience, but he was over 50 before he had known the Juche idea.
From then on he has led a new life and he is rejuvenated and leading a hopeful life still today though he is over 80.
The novel gives philosophical answer to the question of man’s destiny through the hero’s portrayal.
The way for Inoue, the hero, to glorify man’s genuine life and value is to follow the Juche idea.
The Juche idea is a progressive idea of humankind; humankind is everlasting; therefore, those who devoted their all for the Juche idea will be immortal—this was his creed and motto.
As shown by the title, shouting that “I am alive” to the world honorably without being afraid of death is a proud cry that can be made only by a man who acknowledged the truth that the noble life devoted for the progressive idea of humankind will be immortal along with humankind.
The novel sufficiently explains scientific accuracy, truthfulness and vitality of the Juche idea through the life of the hero who grows up to be a follower of the Juche idea.
