Dignified and Happy Life of DPRK Women

    The women in the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea are now leading dignified and happy life while adding warmth and affection to their families and society.

    President Kim Il Sung said.

    “In order to emancipate women completely, it is necessary not only to guarantee them equal rights with men in accordance with the Law on Sex Equality, but also to provide conditions for them to participate freely in state and public activities.”

    The DPRK women freely participate in state and public life with equal rights with men in accordance with the Law on Sex Equality, the DPRK Socialist Constitution and the Law on Safeguarding Women’s Rights. 17.6% of the deputies to the DPRK Supreme People’s Assembly are women. They work in the Party, state and power organs and their number increases day by day. A lot of women have become heroines, professors, doctors and the People’s Artistes, and some women pursuit fighter.

    The DPRK women are provided with social benefits and conveniences on the highest level and participate in state and public activities.

    They enjoy such benefits as the system of bringing up and educating children, the system of free compulsory education, the system of free medical care, the labor system that shortens working hours of those women with a nursing baby and over 3 children, the system of providing rest at sanatoria and holiday homes at state expense and the system of 8-month paid maternity leave.

    The state takes a full responsibility for the upbringing of triplets and quadruplets. Triplets, quadruplets and their mothers have their own doctors. Special solicitudes and benefits including nice dwelling house, medicine, foodstuff and household articles are provided free of charge to the families with triplets and quadruplets.

    The DPRK women are not engaged in harmful and hard labor in accordance with the state law and policies. They participate in the state and public activities without any inconveniences while enjoying the faithful services of rice cooking houses, restaurants, shops and public welfare service centres built in all residential quarters, factories and enterprises.

    The DPRK women are provided with their rights and transformed in a revolutionary way by such political organizations as the Workers’ Party of Korea, the Socialist Women’s Union of Korea and the General Federation of Trade Unions of Korea.

    Social atmosphere of respecting, holding up and actively helping women are established on a social scale.

    The DPRK women are grateful to President Kim Il Sung, Chairman Kim Jong Il and Supreme Leader Kim Jong Un for having them lead worthwhile life as a flower of the country, life and family.
