Fundamental problem of philosophy raised by the Juche idea is the position and role of man in the world.
Man’s position in the world is the problem of whether man dominates the surrounding world or he lives by being subordinated to the surrounding world as a simple part of the world.
If man is a being that lives while subordinating nature and society to his demand, he holds the position as the dominator of the world, whereas man becomes a simple material being instead of being the master of the world if he lives by being subordinated to the surrounding world. In this sense, man’s position in the world is the problem of whether man is the master in dominating the world or not.
Man’s role in the world is the problem of whether man’s activity exerts active influence upon the development of the world or not.
If man has the strength capable of transforming and changing the world and the world is transformed and changed by man’s volitional action, it can be said that man plays decisive role in the development of the world, whereas, if the surrounding world exerts bigger influence upon the development of the world than man, it cannot be said that man plays decisive role in it. In this sense, man’s role in the development of the world is the problem whether man plays decisive role in transforming and changing the world.
