Man is a being with consciousness, a conscious social being.
Because he has consciousness, man understands the world and the law of its motion and development, reshapes and advances nature and society as he desires.
Consciousness is an attribute of man who plans so that all his endeavours to understand and reshape the world can be made rational.
With consciousness man plans what to cognize, transform and obtain on the basis of calculating vital needs and actual conditions. Based on the analysis of purpose of understanding and reshaping, features and concrete conditions of object, man plans data and equipment he will utilize and ways and methods he will apply. Anticipating all understanding and reshaping process and different problems to be presented in the process, man plans along which way he will make progress and in what stages and order he will promote the progress.
Consciousness is also an attribute of man to coordinate and control so that all endeavours can be made properly in line with several new conditions and circumstances in the understanding and reshaping process.
Because he has consciousness, man analyzes and judges everything and its origin, its future changes and influence it will inflict upon the understanding and reshaping. He also evaluates situations and events, draws up ways and makes decision to deal with them. There must be difficulties and trails, big or small, in practical activities. Man does not yield before the difficulties and trials but displays his mental strength and will to brave through them and make his endeavours consistent as he plans.
