    In order to affirm by law the brilliant achievements made in nursing and upbringing children and further strengthen and develop them, the DPRK adopted the Law on the Nursing and Upbringing of Children at the 6^th Session of the 5^th Supreme People’s Assembly on April 29, 1976.

    The Law is a sectional code that regulated the basic system in the sector of nursing and upbringing the children in the DPRK.

    The 1^st chapter of the Law regulates such basic principles for nursing and upbringing of children as the principle of nursing and upbringing children at the expense of the state and society, the principle of providing parents with freedom in nursing and upbringing their children and the principle of increasing care for children. The 2^nd chapter regulates such detailed issues concerning the nursing and upbringing of children by the cost of state and society as providing condition for nursing and upbringing of children, food supply for children, etc.

    The 3^rd chapter regulates the issues arising in nursing children culturally and scientifically including the issue of providing clean living environment and systematic medical service for children. The 4^th chapter regulates the issues arising in upbringing and educating children at nurseries and kindergartens on the basis of the socialist pedagogy. The 5^th and 6^th chapters regulate the mission of nursing and upbringing organs, the trait, qualification and duty of nurses and kindergarteners and the issue of strengthening guidance and control over the nursing and upbringing of children.

    The Law on the Nursing and Upbringing of Children makes active contribution to nursing and upbringing children into healthy ones and liberating women from heavy burden of upbringing children by consolidating and developing the advanced nursing and upbringing system established in the DPRK on a full scale.

    Child in the Law means the one from birth till the preschool age.
