Taehongdan Revolutionary Battle Site located in Taehongdan County, Ryanggang Province, DPRK is the revolutionary battle site which is permeated with the exploits of President Kim Il Sung who organized and led to brilliant victory the Taehongdan battle in May 1939, the period of the anti-Japanese armed struggle.
In May 1939, the President led the main unit of the Korean People’s Revolutionary Army and advanced it to the Musan area. He sent the Seventh Regiment of the KPRA to the direction of Singaechok, and he personally led the Eighth Regiment and the Guards Company and advanced to the Sinsadong area conducting political and military activities. Leader Kim Jong Il visited the Taehongdan Revolutionary Site several times including August 1971, and May 1972, and gave detailed instructions to preserve the original appearance of the battle site, and improve and strengthen the work of preserving and keeping the historic remains. In March 2000 when he gave field guidance to the Taehongdan Revolutionary Battle Site, the leader clarified the ways and methods of reconstructing the Victorious Battle of Musan Area Memorial Tower, which had been erected long ago, and took measures for it. He visited it also on October 8, 2002, and looked around the reconstructed Memorial Tower. He gave precious teachings to be served as a guideline in preserving and keeping the battle site in the future.
The Taehongdan Revolutionary Battle Site reconstructed in May 2002 on the occasion of the 63rd anniversary of the victory in the battle in Musan area. The statue of the President who is holding a pair of binoculars in one hand and giving an attack order with the other hand high is in the center of the memorial front. Behind the statue there is a tower depicting a gun and a bayonet and on the right side of it the Victorious Battle of Musan Area Memorial Tower with large subsidiary sculptures. In the Revolutionary Battle Site, there are also a spring found on May 22, 1939 by the President for the guerrillas who felt thirsty when they were taking a rest by a mountain shrine in Taehongdan and a rest place near the mountain shrine and assembly place, and relics and spots of the KPRA unit such as control posts in the directions of Sinsadong and Yugok.
