Pochonbo revolutionary battle site is located at the seat of Pochon County, Ryanggang Province. It is associated with exploits of President Kim Il Sung who organized and commanded the Pochonbo battle on June 4, 1937, the period when he launched an armed struggle against the Japanese imperialism to deal a heavy political and military blow to the Japanese imperialist aggressors and give a hope of national liberation to the Korean people.
In the battle site there is a bronze statue of the President, depicted as a young general of Mt Paektu, who made a speech before the hailing masses after the battle was over. This bronze statue deeply shows in ideological and artistic way the exploits and traits of the President, the sun of the Korean nation, a legendary hero and an ever-victorious iron-willed commander.
In the battle site there are also several historic sites such as the Kusi barrage used by the main force of the Korean People’s Revolutionary Army to cross on rafts the Amnok River, Konjang Hill on which they had rest to prepare all day for the battle and a command post under a poplar tree on the Karim Stream where Kim Il Sung commanded the Pochonbo Battle 100 meters away from the police substation of the Japanese imperialists. There are also police substation, fire defence hall, sub-county office, forest protection office, agricultural experimental station, post office and the like which were destroyed by the KPRA at the battle. In the battle site there are also the Monument to President Kim Il Sung’s Revolutionary Activities and Pochonbo Revolutionary Museum erected to retell his revolutionary relics and exploits.
Overseas compatriots and foreigners as well as lots of working people, youth and students are now visiting the site.
