Ice Rink in the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea, designed in cone depicting a calotte of ice sportspersons, is a monumental edifice in which the Juche-oriented architectural and aesthetic ideas of President Kim Il Sung and leader Kim Jong Il were embodied.
The Ice Rink was completed in a matter of 1 year and 6 months thanks to the energetic leadership of Kim Jong Il and opened before the 70th birth anniversary of the President.
Later, a new ice sports training rink was built between the Ice Rink and the Indoor Gymnasium. It was inaugurated on February 16, 1984.
The Ice Rink and the ice sports training rink make contributions to the development of the DPRK’s ice sports and physical training of its working and young people.
