Grand People’s Study House

    The Grand People’s Study House on Nam Hill, a center of Pyongyang in the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea is an immense edifice for all-people study.

    Its mission is to make all the people well-versed in science and technology by arming them with the Juche idea and the latest science and technology and active contribution to the development of science and technology of the country.

    Construction of the Grand People’s Study House started on December 2, 1979 was completed in splendor as an immense edifice for all-people study thanks to the energetic guidance of leader Kim Jong Il and opened on the occasion of the 70th birth anniversary of President Kim Il Sung.

    The Grand People’s Study House is the 10-storey Korean-style building that has the total floor space of 100 000 square meters, length of 190.4 meters, width of 150.8 meters and height of 63.6 meters.

    As a center for disseminating science and technology, it satisfies the demands for necessary books and materials for not only scientists and technicians, experts and students but also cadres and the working people. It gives regular lectures on science, technology and information, the lectures at request and short courses in foreign languages and the like. Through the exploration of materials and collection of science and technological information, it has created data bases covering more than 1 000 000 items to offer scientific and technical information to the universities, science research institutions, factories and enterprises through the local network.

    Indeed, the Grand People’s Study House fully demonstrates the superiority of the country of education, socialism in the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea where all the people learn to their hearts content.
