    The revolutionary opera Sea of Blood is the first revolutionary opera of a new type that adapted as it is the revolutionary drama Sea of Blood, an immortal classic masterpiece written by President Kim Il Sung in the period of glorious anti-Japanese revolutionary struggle.

    The revolutionary drama Sea of Blood was adapted for a revolutionary film in 1969, a revolutionary opera in 1971 and a revolutionary novel in 1973 by the energetic guidance of leader Kim Jong Il.

    Through the depiction of its heroine’s revolutionary growth, the opera elucidates the profound idea that the miserable sea of blood should be turned into the struggling sea of blood. Based on the themes of what revolution is, why revolution should be made and what to do to make revolution, it vividly tells President Kim Il Sung’s ideas of anti-imperialist revolution and armed struggle that there is resistance where there is exploitation and oppression.

    The revolutionary opera Sea of Blood successfully created and completed thanks to the detailed guidance of the leader made its first performance in presence of the President on July 17, 1971.

    The opera caused sensations among the world progressive people saying “It is a heroic epic reflecting the anti-Japanese armed struggle of the Korean people” and “It is a model of contemporary opera and a miracle and a great event of modern art.”

    By adapting the immortal classic masterpiece Sea of Blood for a revolutionary opera, the leader announced the opera revolution and ushered in a new era of opera art.

    A new era of opera art was ushered in the DPRK with the creation of the revolutionary opera Sea of Blood as a momentum.
