Rights of Copyright Holder

    The DPRK ensures thoroughly the right of copyright holder through “The DPRK Copyright Law”.

    In the DPRK, copyright holder is the one who wrote works in the fields of literature and art and science and technology or the one who succeeds to the former’s right and he has personal right and property right to writings.

    Personal right is included by the right to deciding publication of writings, the right to marking one’s name on writings and the right to disallowing alteration of title, content and form of writings.

    Only the writer has the personal right of copyright holder and the right cannot be handed over or inherited but protected without time limit.

    Property right is included by the right to reproduction, on-stage performance and broadcast of writings, the right to exhibiting or distributing of original or copy of writings, the right to making new writings and the right to editing writings by adapting in the ways of rewriting, arranging, adapting, colouring, redacting or translating and the right to edit writings.

    Property right of copyright holder allows full or partial transfer or inherits. Copyright holder can share property benefits through the full or partial transfer.

    A person who creates writing and a person who has the property right to the disposed writings can coexist with a piece of writing. In this case, copyright holder has only the personal right to writings and a person who is transferred has only the property right to writings

    Property right to writing is protected for 50 years from the day when the writing is published to the day when the creator dies.
