In order to desire the new, it is necessary to have correct understanding of it.
What is the new, in general and which is new in social history?
Usually the new means element, aspect and tendency that arise in a lawful manner and grow and become strengthened in the course of developing things and phenomena.
The new is a concept that is in opposition to the old that inevitably declines and perishes in the course of development.
It cannot be the new because it takes place for the first time or somebody insists it as the new. The new represents future of development and suits to lawfulness of development.
The new may seem to be relatively feeble and less significant than the old at first but, as it represents high phase of development, it gradually grows and becomes strengthened with passage of time and finally wins victory.
Criterion to distinguish the new from the old in social history is the independent desire and demand of popular masses. In other words, the new is the one that conforms to the popular masses’ desire and demand and contributes to their independence, whereas the old is the one that is contrary to their desire and demand and oppresses their independence.
It is because the course of developing society and history is immediately the course of realizing the masses’ independence.
