Tradition of Mangyongdae Family

The traits of a great man possessed by President Kim Il Sung who was respected and revered by the world people are based on the tradition of Mangyongdae family purely inherited through generations in a humble straw-thatched house in Mangyongdae.

Sacrificing oneself for the country and nation as they are the most valuable in the world, that is, loves for the country, the nation and the people—this is the tradition of Mangyongdae family.

One can keep his family only when he has country and nation, and the love for the country, nation and people leads to fidelity to his parents—this is the creed of Mangyngdae family members who established the tradition.

Mangyongdae family members tenanted a farm from generation to generation. So they could not take enough gruel even though they toiled hard. They were so poor that they could not have a clock before liberation.

However, they did not pursue family’s living or personal glory but were concerned themselves about and dedicated their all for destiny of the country and nation.

When US imperialist aggressors’ ship General Sherman intruded into Taedong River, patriot Kim Ung U, great grandfather of the President aroused his villagers and took the lead in expelling the aggressors. Grandfather Kim Po Hyon educated the family members in such view of life that one can live without money, but cannot live without humanity, and made his children attend the revolutionary struggle without hesitation, saying, “A man should die fighting in the battlefield.”

Grandmother Ri Po Ik was a stout and righteous woman, befitting the mother and grandmother of a revolutionary, who fought fairly against the Japanese military police when they took her to the mountains and fields of Manchuria in order to make President Kim Il Sung “submit.”

Kim Hyong Jik, father of the President was an outstanding leader of the national liberation movement who devoted his whole life to sovereignty of the country, and uncle Kim Hyong Gwon and younger brother Kim Chol Ju were the true patriots who dedicated their precious lives for national liberation.

The President is the one and only person who returned home after liberation among the family members who left the straw-thatched house in Mangyongdae to save destiny of the country and nation.

The revolutionary tradition of Mangyongdae family is now being inherited by respected Supreme Leader Kim Jong Un, thus creating great miracles and producing numerous moving episodes of love for the people in the struggle for prosperity of the country and eternal happiness of the Korean people.
