On August 23 1958, President Kim Il Sung saw to it that Okryu Restaurant was built and he chose the site for the restaurant. The President led it to be built as the Korean-style architecture full of national flavor. He named the restaurant on August 13, 1960. He wisely led to turn it into a genuine model of the socialist public catering service through scores of his field guidance to the restaurant.
Leader Kim Jong Il saw to it that Okryu Restaurant was reconstructed in line with the modern aesthetic sense for several times and scrupulously led to be a seed bed of development of national dishes.
Okryu Restaurant consists of the main building, two annex buildings and Special Cook House.
The main building has a total floor space of about 5 800 square meters and has a capacity of about 1 000 seats.
Hundreds of people can have outdoor services in the large balconies of the first and second floors in summer.
The annex buildings have a total floor space of 6 200 square meters and a capacity of about 1 200 seats. Special Cook House has a total floor space of 6 000 square meters and a capacity of about 600 seats.
Okryu Restaurant serves the Pyongyang cold noodle, meat tray noodle, tray noodle and various other foods such as mung-bean pancake, onban (specially cooked rice), jongol (a kind of stew with various materials) and sinsollo. Especially Pyongyang cold noodle is famous for its good taste to the world as well as at home as a special Korean national food.
Special Cook House serves the Korean national dishes and various dishes of turtle, salmon, sturgeon, quail and bull frog.
