The combatant image of the Paektusan Heroine Kim Jong Suk who displayed courage in the anti-Japanese battles with wisdom and indomitable strong offensive spirit is inscribed and shines like a star in the hearts of the Korean people.

Among the stories that arouse the unforgettable recollection of the extraordinary legendary heroine, there is a story about the Liushucun battle, Antu County, one of the main battles the Korean People’s Revolutionary Army had.

It was one day in January 1936.

At that time the unit of puppet Manchukuo army which boasted themselves of the “hard core” entrenched near Liushuchun village, imposing all sorts of barbarities and outrages over the people.

The people in this area had high resentment against those puppet Manchukuo soldiers who were much more heinous than beasts.

Being informed of this fact, the headquarters of the Guerrilla Army planned a battle to smash them to take revenge of the people.

Kim Jong Suk was in the 3rd assault team this day.

In the east and west corner of the high walls around the barracks of the enemy, there were two-storey batteries.

The gate which the 3rd assault team had to break through was near the battery in the east.

When it got dark, the three teams got into the position by stealth.

Kim Jong Suk with the team members nearly reached the high eastern wall through snowstorm.

At this time, a shower of fire burst out from the battery suddenly.

In order to change the bad situation into favorable one, they had to gain control of the firing power of the battery and for this, the assault team had to attack the enemy’s barracks rapidly and break up the attention of the batteries. But the enormous wall blocked their way.

In this critical moment, the team leader was embarrassed. At that moment Kim Jong Suk who read at once that the wall was made of mud told him that it could be broken down if they dug the lower part and pushed it.

She discovered that the ground was soft even when everything was frozen and that the wall was made of mud and it was possible to dig as the mud was dry. Her wise decision surprized the team leader.

The team leader who got more confidence gave an order to dig the lower part of the wall with bayonets.

The team members who dug the lower part of the wall in a moment all together pushed the wall. Then the wall which looked strong fell down at once.

    Finally, the breakthrough was opened.

The assault team broke into the walls and smashed the enemies.

Kim Jong Suk who approached the barracks gave a shower of grenades upon the enemies. With a big bang, the barracks got with fire.

The assault was done in a few minutes.

By the extraordinary wisdom of Kim Jong Suk, who found a solution in the suddenly-changed circumstances without any vacillation, helping the team to open the breakthrough for the victory of battle, the Liushuchun battle finished with the victory of the Korean People’s Revolutionary Army.
