Great Mother Kim Jong Suk of Revolution who gave continuity to the revolutionary cause of Juche

One of the great exploits that the anti-Japanese heroine Kim Jong Suk performed during her lifetime is that she brought her son up as a successor to carry forward to completion the revolutionary cause of Juche pioneered by President Kim Il Sung.

    President Kim Il Sung said:

“If there is any heritage she left with us, it is that she brought up Comrade Kim Jong Il to be the leader of the future, and presented him to the motherland and the Party. You say I brought him up to be my successor, but in actual fact the foundation was laid by Kim Jong Suk. This is the greatest service she rendered for the revolution.”

Kim Jong Suk gave birth to the son of the nation, the bright star of Mt. Paektu in the secret camp of Mt. Paektu on February 16, 1942.

President Kim Il Sung visited the secret camp of Mt. Paektu in June, 1942. With his son in his arms, he told the guerillas to bring up the coming generation, so that they could succeed the revolution. He also told that it was our will to help them keep upholding the red flag of the revolution flied in Mt. Paektu.

Kim Jong Suk devoted her all endeavor and sincerity to bring up her son as the “leader’s son”, “son of the revolution” and “son of the country and people” by combining the maternal love with devotion to and responsibility for the leader and his cause.

Those days when she brought up her son were not comfortable and calm days but the days of severe bloody battles against the Japanese imperialists and arduous days of building the new democratic Korea from scratch.

Kim Jong Suk made efforts to bring him up as the sun of the future in such a difficult period of revolution.

She trained him to be endlessly loyal to President Kim Il Sung.

Loyalty to leader is the first criterion of a successor to the leader and the core in his ideological and spiritual traits.

Kim Jong Suk told her son, “Grow up quickly to be a good man who devotes all for the country and the people with your father in high esteem and true to his lofty will”, implanting loyalty to President Kim Il Sung in his mind.

She used to tell her young son that the country could be prosperous and the people be well-off only when President Kim Il Sung was healthy and that all of us should fulfill our obligations as his soldiers in order to help him to hold President Kim Il Sung in high esteem not as a father of a family but as the great leader of all people and to trust and follow only him.

Her instructions were applied in his life.

The letter which Kim Jong Il wrote to his father far away from him during the past Korean War says:

“…you are not just an individual but the leader of the entire Korean people.

So, all the Korean people and also we shall be happy to see you well and healthy and to know that you look out for enemy planes and take care of yourself.”

Kim Jong Suk taught her son to learn after his father’s noble traits of devoting all for the people, taking him to field guidance of President Kim Il Sung.

She taught him to uphold his father with loyalty with her practical example.

She would see and greet President Kim Il Sung to and from the gate even in rainy or snowy days and look around her house every night. When her son waked up and asked her where she had been holding her cold hands, she answered, “I am a guard of defending your father.”

Her young son would get up early in the morning, follow the daily routine of his father and receive the precious instructions from him as his mother did. He would also shoo singing birds away with a pole outside with his mother when his father went to bed.

With the days going by, leader Kim Jong Il fostered loyalty to President Kim Il Sung and kept the lofty will to carry forward to completion the revolutionary cause pioneered in the thick forests of Mt. Paektu true to the noble will of his mother.

Kim Jong Suk also brought up her son to be a great man combined with pen and sword.

Leader Kim Jong Il has matchless intelligence, courage, broad-mindedness and extraordinary spirit of inquiry from his childhood.

Kim Jong Suk saw through gifted disposition and traits of her son and valued them more than anything else, and devoted her heart and soul to make him fully display them.

She did her utmost to make him possess profound knowledge on nature and society and high cultural and sentimental attainments.

One spring day in Juche 37(1948) she was questioned by her son why man is the best in the world. She taught him by saying to the following effect; man is the only being that knows the reason why nature and society changes and develops and that turns it in favor of his living; man makes everything necessary for food, clothing and housing by himself; man makes paddy and non-paddy fields to do farming for cereals and manufactures trains, trucks, airplanes, and tanks and produces cloth, shoes and bowls; he overthrows an evil society where man exploits and oppresses man and builds a new society where everyone is well-off; the working people such as workers and farmers are the most powerful and precious in the world; our people are better and more precious than others.

Extraordinary and distinguished insight and analyzing capability of leader Kim Jong Il who grasps at a time the essence of all incidents and events of the world even in such a complicated and changing present situation and leads our revolution to victory are fostered by Kim Jong Suk’s sincerity and efforts.

Kim Jong Suk taught her son how to sing songs and how to read a notation while playing an organ and saw that he kept songs as a powerful weapon of the revolution.

Artistic ability and talent of leader Kim Jong Il who is highly praised as a “genius of art” and a “master of modern literature and art” by the Korean people and the world people today were also by her overcautious and passionate efforts.

Kim Jong Suk valued her son’s matchlessly strong, bold and audacious gifts and poured her heart and soul to develop them into disposition befitting a brilliant commander and a general.

She told her son the protean tactics of President Kim Il Sung and the importance of strategy and art of leading the army to be displayed by commanders in battles. When he asked her to ride a horse in his childhood, she taught him how to ride and shoot and thus cultivated for him the wisdom and talent of a brilliant commander.

She also brought him up to be a passionate fighter who loves the country, the nation and the people.

During her whole revolutionary lifetime she taught him to be a fervent fighter with love for the country, the people and the nation true to President Kim Il Sung’s idea of “believing in the people as in Heaven”.

One day in late November, 1945 she went to the beach in Sonbong with her son. When he asked her if those birds were seagulls, indicating them, she told him that he was right and they couldn’t live without sea. As he asked her again why they couldn’t do, she told him the reason. She developed it into patriotism, the noble idea and feeling of people, to make him keep it in his mind.

She said as follows; seagulls cannot live without the sea, for this vast space of waters is their nest; The sea is their mother who keeps them in her bosom and feeds them; That’s why they can’t live without sea nor leave it; As sea is a mother for seagulls, the country is the motherland for our people; We can’t live without the country as if those seagulls can’t live without sea. Your father fought against the Japs on Mt. Paektu to win back the precious country for our people.

What she told him that day made leader Kim Jong Il, who grew up not in a warm and comfortable cradle but in all kinds of hardships because the country was deprived, realize more deeply the preciousness of the country and keep ardent love for the country as a firm faith and will.

Comrade Kim Jong Suk called at a rural village of the outskirts with her son early in winter, 1946. She helped a short-handed family with its flail and made him thrash bean in the yard.

After some time she dried sweat on his forehead and said how hard and exhausting it was for peasants to do the farming during their lifetime, though it was even hard for her and him to do it just for a while. She continued to say that he should grow up quickly and help the President, so that he could make our rural area, good to live in, where fields are ploughed and seeded by machines and weeded by agrochemicals in order to release them from hard labor.

Those days when Kim Jong Suk visited factories, rural and fishing villages and forestry workers’ villages with her son to spend time with workers and farmers were the meaningful days when she made him possess the noble traits as a genuine people’s leader who loves the country and the working people, shares woe and weal with them and devotes himself to them.

Kim Jong Suk also brought him up to be a man of justice, a man of passion and a man of virtue.

She saw with meticulous concern that her son possessed the spirit and qualities of distinguishing justice from injustice in the relation with his friends and neighbours and not sympathizing nor compromising anything unjust that is against the people’s interest however trifle it was.

She told her son; it is good thing that people covet not for things or money but for work; only then, can they do good things more for others. She paid deep attention to carry through whatever he started with great energy and enthusiasm.

In addition, she prepared special food for his friends whenever she cooked something special for her son because he thought much of them and taught him to do more good things for his friends and others. She taught him in practice the truth of life that man feels pleased and happy when he devotes to others instead of himself.

She saw that his devotion for others was developed further into the love and devotion for the collective and the society, the country and the people.

One day there was a bicycle game in his kindergarten. He was driving a bicycle in the first place and saw one of his mates fall down from his bike. He immediately helped him on his bike and drove his bicycle again. So he took the second place to his regret.

Kim Jong Suk took her son in her arms and said; that you helped the fallen child up on his bike is better than that you came first; Well done!

She brought him up in humble and plain condition to make him possess popular traits.

A woman who lived neighbour to her house saw young Kim Jong Il lead a humble life every day and told Kim Jong Suk that she brought her son up so strictly.

She was in deep thought for a while and said; my son was born in Mt. Paektu, I wrapped him with my military uniform and carried him along with my sack; he started walking with a help of my rifle and lived on edible wild plants and water of Mt.Paektu; so I am going to bring him up as a son of Mt. Paektu.

With deep love and devoted efforts of Kim Jong Suk, leader Kim Jong Il is praised as the great sun of the 21st century and the Korean people are blessed with leaders through generations.

The distinguished feat performed by Kim Jong Suk who gave continuity to the revolutionary cause of Juche will go down for ever in history.
