Story of Foot Warmer

It was one day in January 1946.

Snow storm that had begun to blow since daytime didn’t stop even after the sunset, but instead became more severe at midnight.

Extreme cold of winter pitilessly attack bodies of the guards who were wearing fur caps, fur coats and fur shoes.

Inspecting sentry posts as usual, Kim Jong Suk adjusted the guards’ neckbands and tied their fur hat strings and left them.

On the way back home, she thought over the method of keeping the guards’ feet warm.

An idea of the foot warmer, which they had used in standing guard in the anti-Japanese armed struggle period, came into her mind.

As soon as she came back from the sentry posts, Kim Jong Suk made a wood box all night with saw and hammer. She filled it tightly with rice straw, closed it with a board and covered it with dog fur to make a soft foot warmer.

Next morning she asked the guards platoon leader to see the foot warmer she made as she had done in the period of fighting against the Japanese imperialists.

The platoon leader said in a tearful voice that he would have made it if she had told him to do.

With smile, Kim Jong Suk said that she would willingly set up several nights in order not to make the guards feel cold, telling him to bring it to the guards.

The guards were moved to tears by the platoon leader’s story about the foot warmer.

Cherishing Kim Jong Suk’s benevolent affection deep in mind, the guards determined to firmly defend President Kim Il Sung at the cost of their lives.
