Fish in Water Are Not Conscious They Are Living in Water

On October 17, 1961, students of Kim Il Sung University were talking in the lecture hall about the previous day when they had preventive injection during a break.

The students were laughing at one student who had tried not to have preventive injection but been scolded by the doctors.

At that moment leader Kim Jong Il came into the hall and asked the student what made them laugh.

A student told him the story about the day when they had had injections. The leader also laughed a big laugh and said to the student of the topic that he was as cowardly as a child. The fact that the doctors gave injections to every missed student, he said, showed the good public health system of our country.

The students, who were making a fuss about that day as a simple joking matter, became silent at once and listened to the leader carefully.

Looking at the students, the leader said that they should be deeply conscious of the validity of our Party’s public health system and the superiority of our health system in which doctors visit patients beforehand and take preventive measures.

He said that the capitalist society is a society where money is everything, where those without money are unable to have medical treatment even though they get sick and where doctors examine patients’ purse before examining them. He continued to say that the bourgeois scholars cannot conceal anti-popular and reactionary nature of the capitalist society even though they tried to embellish and beautify it.

Saying that the superiority of our country’s public health system is vividly expressed in our Party’s policy on preventive medicine, he stressed that our Party’s line of preventive medicine is the genuine popular policy to realize our people’s desire to enjoy longevity in good health in our socialist system in which people lead a happy life free from cares and worries patently proving the popular character of our socialist system.

The leader said that we should be well aware of the fact that our country invests much in public heath not because our country has more money and be better off than other country. He said that in order to make the students have good understanding of the validity of our Party’s popular policy on public heath and superiority of our public heath system, the Democratic Youth League organization had better take advantage of the days when they have preventive injections to educate them in a proactive manner.

Listening to him, the students were conscious of the true superiority of our socialist public health system remembering the proverb that fish in the water are not conscious that they are living in water.
