One day in August, 2007, Kim Jong Il watched samples of newly-produced hairpin with some officials concerned without relaxing his tiredness piled up during his field guidance in the hottest season. He was very much satisfied at various patterned and colourful hairpins. As if imagining the Korean women who would be glad to have them, Kim Jong Il, with smile, asked an official what he was going to brand the hairpins. Hearing that he was going to brand them “dandelion”, Kim Jong Il thought for a while whether there would be any other better brands than it because they would be used by women. The officials looked up at him with respect while feeling deep love of the benevolent father who wants to put best brand on the luxuries of women.
After a while, Kim Jong Il said that it was better to brand them “cosmos” instead of “dandelion” because the latter has only a few colours and the former has various kinds of colours. He told them that he was in good mood whenever he saw cosmos on his way to field guidance and that it was better to brand them “cosmos”.
The officials exclaimed to him with admiration.
The more we think of “cosmos”, the more lovely and meaningful it is. Cosmos keeps its flowers long even in cold wind of late autumn when other flower petals fall down. It has very beautiful colours such as red, pink, white, purple, etc. Its physiology of loving the sunlight is all the more predominant.

One day in December, 2006, Kim Jong Il called some officials concerned and asked them if our country could also produce good hairpins, one of women’s luxuries. His question was so sudden that they were at a loss. They could not answer him. However, he did not complained them but said that, according to data, women’s need for hairpins got high and our country could possibly produce high-quality hairpins suited to women’s liking because we had enough workers who specialize in jewelry processing.
Later, Kim Jong Il took measures to primarily provide equipment and materials necessary for producing hairpins and gave precious instructions about strict quality test and increasing production.
The officials were moved, thinking that only leader Kim Jong Il pays so much attention even to hairpins, a mere liking of women that is not an important state affair.
