The world history of war shows that, when they were attacked suddenly and on a full scale, the countries commonly fell into confusion and was ruined at last or switched over to the counteroffensive after dealing with the situation and making full preparations while suffering from miserable trials for a while.

The Korean war provoked by the US imperialists on June 25, 1950 was the stern one equivalent to one occasion of the world war in its severity and harshness, the one that is the biggest in the number of committed men, density of fire and consumption of military equipment as compared with the small Korean peninsula and a hopeless one in which a 2-year old young army had to fight against the large combined forces led by the chieftain of imperialism boasting of being the “strongest” in the world.

At the moment when the US imperialists caused ravages of war by sudden invasion, President Kim Il Sung foresaw the prospect of victory on the basis of deep penetration into the prevailing military and political situation, the balance of forces between friend and foe and the weakness of the enemy and, advanced the strategy to switch over to an immediate counteroffensive.

The immediate counteroffensive was a courageous decision that could be made only by the great brilliant commander who was confident of the victory all the time with his steel-strong courage and pluck.
