It was when military and political studies were made for members of the Korean People’s Revolutionary Army (KPRA) at the Matanggou Secret Camp during the anti-Japanese armed struggle period.

One day when the studies were in brisk, President Kim Il Sung grasped the studying situation of several members who were learning the Korean alphabet first in their life.

They were at a loss what to do as Kim Il Sung intended to guide their studies. However, they were attracted so much by his boundlessly benevolent personality that they spoke out their thoughts about the studies.

One of them told Kim Il Sung that he thought it would be better for him to do shooting practices than to spend time on learning the alphabet so that he could defeat as many Japanese imperialists as possible.

Listening to him, Kim Il Sung said kindly that a person who embarked on the road of revolution with arms in his hands could not be a true revolutionary no matter how good he might be at shooting if he didn’t know the theory of revolution, adding that he can fight against the enemy in readiness only when he learns alphabet to know the truth of the revolution.
