It was one summer day in 1946, the next year of the country’s liberation. While he was having a meal with officials, President Kim Il Sung saw a newly appointed official hesitating near the door. Kim Il Sung invited him to have a meal together.

The official was surprised as his meal was quite simple. Boiled rolled barley, a piece of mackerel and a bowl of soup were all for his meal.

The official thought the meal was too simple for the officials of the Party Central Committee even though the food situation was bad.

At that time he heard a happy laughter from the table where Kim Il Sung sat. He looked at the table and was surprised once again.

Kim Il Sung’s meal was as same as his.

He didn’t know the fact that officials had been scolded by Kim Il Sung when they planned to prepare him a meal which was different from others.

At that time Kim Il Sung told officials that it was necessary to settle the people’s living while having the same meal as they have and sharing sweets and bitters with them who were suffering from food shortage. Kim Il Sung said that, if one ignores the people’s living, he cannot be revolutionary but privileged. Kim Il Sung said that it was better for him to have the same meal as they had.
