One January day in 1966, Chairman Kim Jong Il asked an official concerned what they planned to do on the occasion of the 20th founding anniversary of the Korean Children’s Union (KCU).
Being told that they planned celebration events not on a large scale, Kim Jong Il said that it was necessary to organize them on a large scale on the occasion of the 20th founding anniversary of the KCU though other events might be done on a small scale. He told the official to plan them in a fresh way.
Later, the official conferred with others concerned about the events and presented Kim Jong Il another plan which, he thought, seemed too big.
Saying that the plan was too passive, Kim Jong Il noted that it would be advisable to make backdrop when holding the Joint National Meeting of the KCU Organizations, so that it would be more splendid. He told him to see the plan again whether there was anything to be included.
The official examined the plan in detail, but he found nothing to be included.
Kim Jong Il thought for a while and told the official that a firework display was not included in the plan. Kim Jong Il continued that there were firework displays only on big national holidays, but there should be also a firework display on the day which marked the founding anniversary of the Children’s Union.
Accordingly, June 6, the founding day of the KCU, was celebrated on a large scale as a big festival of the country.
