It was when the main unit of the Korean People’s Revolutionary Army was on the Arduous March in the period of the anti-Japanese armed struggle.

The unit, led by President Kim Il Sung, was marching without food, only eating snow. One of orderlies gave the scanty parched-rice flour which they kept as Kim Il Sung’s emergency ration to him but he refused to take it.

One evening, Kim Il Sung told the orderlies to take out the rest of parched-rice flour they kept for emergency rations. Saying that they will have a full stomach if they have it regarding it as a gallon of parched-rice flour, he distributed a cup of parched-rice flour to each of them regardless of his share.

The orderlies gave some of their shares to Kim Il Sung but he gave it back to them.

A cup of parched-rice flour was given to Kim Il Sung and given back to his orderlies several times.

This tells their warm affection between Kim Il Sung and the anti-Japanese guerillas rather than arduousness of the anti-Japanese revolutionary struggle.
