The 6th Plenary Meeting of the 8th Central Committee of the Workers’ Party of Korea set the housing construction, a revolution that brings about epochal changes and a project greatly favored by the people, as the first major policy task.

The WPK adopted a decision for settling the problem of the people’s houses even in the worst condition and circumstances and made dynamic efforts to put it into practice, thus making a remarkable progress.

In 2022, the modern Songhwa Street and the Pothonggang terraced residential district were completed and a large architectural group came into being in the Hwasong area in Pyongyang, capital of the DPRK. News of moving to new houses in cities and counties across the country was also told in succession.

The WPK unfolded a plan of carrying out the housing construction on a large scale in 2023 by further expanding the successes achieved in 2022.

It is necessary to build a new street composing of 3 700 flats along with the construction of 10 000 flats of the second stage in the Hwasong area in 2023, that is, the third year of the construction of 50 000 flats in Pyongyang City. It is also necessary to direct greater efforts to the rural construction on the basis of the experience accumulated in 2022.

In order to dynamically push ahead with the housing construction, the sector of building materials industry should wage a drive for increased production and the sector of construction pay special attention to the builders’ precious life protection and safety by establishing strict discipline for labor safety while ensuring high quality in construction and carrying out construction in cultured way.
