At the end of June, 1950 Kim Il Sung called an official of a naval unit to his office and gave him an order to destroy a heavy cruiser of US imperialists.

The official could not but doubt his ears. It was because he never imagined any fight between a small torpedo boat and a heavy cruiser of 17 000-ton class.

Looking at the official who kept silent with astonishment, Kim Il Sung said that the enemies probably thought that the DPRK fleet would not dare attack their heavy cruiser as they knew that the former could not match the latter technically. He said that it was necessary to take advantage of this weak point.

Soon afterwards, navy men of the Korean People’s Army achieved a big gain by sinking the enemy’s heavy cruiser and destroying their light cruiser off the coast of Jumunjin.
