The Juche idea clarifies that the independent stand must be maintained in the socio-historical movement, the revolutionary movement as the socio-historical movement is an independent movement of the popular masses.
Leader Kim Jong Il said.
“The independent stand is the stand for the masses to maintain their independent position as the masters of the revolution and construction and of their own destiny; the basic requirement of this stand is for them to exercise their rights as the masters of the revolution and construction and fulfil their responsibilities as such.”
The independent stand enables the popular masses to exercise their rights as masters of the revolution and construction.
That the masses exercise the rights as masters of the revolution and construction means that they deal with all problems arising in the revolution and construction in keeping with their own judgment and decision according to their demand and interests.
The masses of the people have the rights to deal with all problems in the revolution and construction in an independent way as they are the masters of the revolution and construction.
Being subordinated to others and failing to deal with the problems in the revolution and construction in accordance with one’s own decision is as same as being deprived of one’s rights as master, and following others’ will and going against one’s own interests is as same as abandoning one’s own rights as such.
The popular masses can defend their dignity and independent rights and create independent living conditions only when they adhere to independence in the revolution and construction.
Independent stand also enables the popular masses to fulfil their responsibility as the masters of the revolution and construction.
That they fulfil their responsibility as the masters of the revolution and construction means that the masses of the people solve all problems in the revolution and construction with their own efforts and responsibility.
The revolution and construction are made by the popular masses and, therefore, all problems in the revolution and construction must be solved with their own efforts and responsibility on the principle of self-reliance.
One can receive help from others in the revolution and construction, but the main is one’s own efforts. It is evasion of responsibility and renounce of standpoint as master to leave one’s own undertaking to the others or solve one’s own problem through others’ support.
One can win everything if he believes in one’s own strength and advances with one’s own efforts. However, one is unable to make revolution and living if he does not believe in one’s own strength and depends on others.
The popular masses can fulfil their responsibility as the masters of the revolution and construction only when they solve all problems in the revolution and construction with their own efforts and responsibility.
Independent stand is the fundamental standpoint to be adhered to in the socio-historical movement, the revolutionary movement.
It is because the independent stand is suited to the nature of the revolutionary movement, the popular masses’ work for independence and the most steadfast revolutionary standpoint of opposing all sorts of reactionary and counter-revolutionary standpoint such as servility to a big country and dependence on outside forces, domination and intervention that check the realization of the masses’ independence and of struggling uncompromisingly against them.
The independent stand must be adhered to. Only then, can one defend independence of one’s own people and respect other’s independence.
