Looking down upon and oppressing small countries and the nations while giving prominence to the “mightiness” of one’s own country and “superiority” of one’s own nation is the major expression of great power chauvinism. Great-power chauvinists seek to subordinate small countries politically, economically and culturally and infringe upon their independence, interfere in the internal affairs arbitrarily and pose as master in solving international problems. It gives detrimental effects on small countries’ sovereignty and interests for its political ambition and economic profits.
History proves that great power chauvinism is not limited to a big country. Insisting on its larger territory and population, the cultural development and long history, some countries force their requisitions to others while looking down upon them and interfering in their internal affairs even though no one granted such right.
Every man has equal rights irrespective of his or her height or date of birth. The same is the countries and nations. Such and such differences can never be the reasons for interference, control and oppression. The bigger a country is, the more responsibility and role it should fulfil before the international community. Here in lie the position and confidence as a big power. If a country takes to great power chauvinism, it inevitably infringes the independence of other countries and nations. Infringement of independence definitely results in mistrust and precaution, imprecation and denunciation.
