    Dear delegates,

    The historic Seventh Congress of the Workers’ Party of Korea is now winding up its work, having achieved great successes amid a high degree of political enthusiasm and the best wishes and expectations of all the delegates, Party members, service personnel and other people.

    Through this Party Congress we have fully displayed the invincible might of the great Kimilsungist-Kimjongilist party and demonstrated to the whole world the unshakeable conviction and determination that we will accomplish the cause of socialism, the cause of the Juche revolution, under the unfurled banner of Kimilsungism-Kimjongilism.

    The Seventh Congress of the Workers’ Party of Korea will be recorded for ever in the history of our Party as a glorious meeting of victors that laid lasting groundwork for implementing the cause of the Juche revolution and established a new milestone in carrying out the socialist cause.

    I am extremely gratified that this Party Congress was convened at an important, historic turning point in implementing the cause of the Juche revolution and that full discussion was held of the items on the agenda, and I extend warm thanks to all the delegates, Party members, service personnel and other people who made positive efforts to make the Congress a success.

    Now, as I stand here to declare the Seventh Congress of the Workers’ Party of Korea closed, I am reflecting on the grim decades in which our Party has travelled such a long and arduous road. My yearning grows stronger for the great Comrades Kim Il Sung and Kim Jong Il who worked with such devotion to the last moments of their great life to hand down this powerful Korea to posterity, overcoming severe historical tempests. And it brings back vivid memories of the names and faces of the unforgettable revolutionary comrades who have passed away. They supported the leader’s intentions and cause, showing no affectation and vacillation whether in good times or bad, and worked with devotion to develop the Party and achieve the victory of the socialist cause.

    Though they are not here with us, we should never forget our precious revolutionary comrades-in-arms who battled all the odds as genuine comrades of our Party and devoted themselves heart and soul to the Party and the leader, the country and the people during the period under review.

    The Seventh Congress of the Workers’ Party of Korea has reviewed with pride the great victories our Party and people gained during the period under review in carrying out the cause of the Juche revolution under the wise leadership of Comrades Kim Il Sung and Kim Jong Il .

    This Congress has unfolded a magnificent blueprint for realizing our people’s dreams and ideals by building a powerful socialist country on a full scale under the banner of modelling the whole society on Kimilsungism-Kimjongilism. It has also put forward some important tasks to be tackled in achieving the independent reunification of the country and accelerating the cause of global independence.

    The grand objectives and the revolutionary lines and policies presented by this Congress will be an inspiring banner instilling in all our Party members, service personnel and other people confidence in the future and in victory, and forcefully rousing the whole Party, the entire army and all the people for the general onward march to achieve the final victory of the revolution.

    The Congress, reflecting the unanimous will and desire of the whole Party and all the people, has inscribed in Party Rules the great Comrade Kim Jong Il ’s position as the eternal leader of the Workers’ Party of Korea.

    Our Party will hold up Comrade Kim Jong Il as its eternal leader, and staunchly champion and add eternal brilliance to his revolutionary ideology and exploits.

    In accordance with the will of its entire membership, the Congress elected a new central leadership organ of the Party.

    That a new central leadership organ of the Party has been elected with the unanimous approval of all the delegates is a clear manifestation of the absolute support and trust in our Party of its members and all other people.

    I express my heartfelt thanks to the delegates, Party members, service personnel and all other people for the great confidence they have shown in me.

    Cherishing deep in my heart the greatest trust and expectations of the delegates, Party members, service personnel and all other people who have entrusted me with the heavy responsibility of the chairmanship of the dignified Workers’ Party of Korea, I will fight on undauntedly, offering myself unsparingly to the sacred struggle to hasten the final victory of the cause of the Juche revolution pioneered on Mt Paektu; and I pledge myself to remain faithful to the revolution, holding our people invariably and selflessly at any time, at any place and at any moment in high esteem, even if my body may be torn to pieces and I may fall.

    The newly elected Party Central Committee will implement the lines and policies advanced by the Congress and fulfil the historic mission and responsibility it has assumed in implementing the cause of the Juche revolution so as to live up to the deep trust and expectations of Party members and other people without fail.

    Our Party will serve the people faithfully and fight to the last for the nation’s prosperity and the people’s well-being, always holding high the slogan “Everything for the people, everything by relying on them!” in the future, too, as it did in the past, true to the great leaders’ noble idea of “The people are my God.”

    The members of the central leadership organ of the Party, keeping in mind the weighty responsibility they have assumed on behalf of the Party and the revolution, should be staunch vanguard fighters in implementing the instructions of the great leaders and the Party’s lines and policies and able organizers and propagators who inspire the broad masses forcefully to implement the decisions of this Party Congress.

    Our Party and people are faced with enormous tasks, and the imperialists and other hostile forces will persist with their manoeuvres to hinder us.

    However, we will surely win final victory, since the great Kimilsungism-Kimjongilism is illuminating the way ahead of us, since we have the single-hearted unity of the service personnel and all other people rallied firmly as one behind the Party, and since our revolutionary armed forces that are infinitely faithful to the Party are holding the red bayonet of invincibility.

    Let us all fight vigorously for the completion of the socialist cause, the independent reunification of the country and the victory of the cause of global independence, firmly united around the Party Central Committee under the unfurled banner of Kimilsungism-Kimjongilism.

    With the firm conviction that the revolutionary lines and policies put forward by the Seventh Party Congress will be carried out thoroughly and a great turn will be brought about in implementing the cause of the Juche revolution thanks to the indomitable offensive spirit and heroic struggle of all the delegates, Party members, service personnel and other people who are unfailingly faithful to our revolution, I declare the historic Seventh Congress of the Workers’ Party of Korea, closed.
