Munsubong Revolutionary Site, located in Thongdaewon District, Pyongyang, is the one where President Kim Il Sung, Chairman Kim Jong Il and the anti-Japanese war heroine Kim Jong Suk planted trees on April 6, 1947.
Originally Munsu Hill was a beautiful one thick with pine, chestnut and oak and abundant in anthracite coal underground. However, from the beginning of their occupation of Korea the Japanese aggressors not only plundered all trees and coal of Munsu Hill to invade the continent but built barracks and air-raid shelters on the hill. This beautiful hill was almost naked like other mountains and fields of the country.
After liberation the President organized the grand memorial ceremony of planting trees on the playground of the (then) Pyongyang Economic School on April 6, 1947 with a far-reaching plan to turn the devastated mountains and fields of the country into the green forest and climbed up Munsu Hill with the citizens. The President said that by nature this mountain was called Munsu Hill, which means a mountain as beautiful as embroidery on silk fabrics. He said that its original view, however, was disappeared and became an ugly naked one owing to the Japanese imperialists. The President said that aftereffects left by the Japanese colonial rule must be removed as early as possible by carry on afforestation thoroughly.

He said that planting trees should be regarded not as a simple function but as a worthwhile nature-harnessing to cover the democratic capital with thick foliage by removing aftermath of the vicious Japanese colonial rule.
He underlined that, as forestation is a long-term gigantic project, the entire people must be mobilized into the project in every part of the country. He also said that it is important to plant not any trees but the ones of economic use and utilize the mountain effectively as well as tree nursery and forest conservation.
That day the President planted the tree on Munsu Hill and climbed up its top to have a bird’s-eye view of Pyongyang city and made a brilliant long-term plan of building the capital city.
