The Pothonggang Revolutionary Site is associated with immortal revolutionary history of President Kim Il Sung, young Kim Jong Il and anti-Japanese war heroine Kim Jong Suk who made efforts to build Pothong River and its surroundings into a paradise of the people.
The site is in Pothonggang District, Pyongyang, DPRK.
The Pothong River was a river of sorrow which would be flooded even by little rain, thus bringing immeasurable miseries and disasters to the people.
The President who didn’t forget a moment about the miseries and disasters of those on the Pothong plain initiated the project of improving the Pothong River in order to ignite the flame of the struggle for a new country by removing the disasters of the river from the liberated land.
The President came to the spot and broke ground first for the Pothong River improvement project on May 21, 1946.
Kim Jong Suk took charge of generally mobilizing the women for the project.
Her suggestion that the women’s union officials should be vanguards was supported unanimously by them.
Kim Jong Suk who came to the spot together with the President told that the Korean people, united firmly around the President, would harness the miserable Pothong River and build a street of paradise in Thosongrang which had been hard for man to live.

Inspired by the wise leadership of the President and the noble personalities of anti-Japanese war heroine Kim Jong Suk and young Kim Jong Il, builders and citizens of the capital displayed boundless loyalty and patriotic devotion and completed the Pothong River improvement project in a matter of 55 days.
In the Pothonggang Revolutionary Site there are monument to the Pothong River Improvement Project and the places where the President made historic encouraging speech and took the first spade at the ground-breaking ceremony, which are telling the project forever.
