The words such as the fees for medical examination, treatment and hospital charges are unfamiliar to the Korean people. Korea is the only state that ensures a complete and universal free medical care system in which the state is totally responsible for the health of all people ranging from a child to an aged person and gives them medical treatment free of charge.
Today some countries give free medical treatment, which is according to the already contracted medical insurance or given to some patients by individual charitable institutions or medical staffs. In capitalist society based on individualism, the charge for the treatment and medicines are very expensive and a patient is unable to receive medical treatment though he or she is at a critical situation since the medical treatment serves as a business and a means of making money.
The superiority of the public health system in Korea is proved by the fact that, next, the Workers’ Party of Korea’s policy on preventive medicine is being embodied to prevent the people from illness beforehand.
The WPK clarified that the socialist medical science is, in essence, the preventive medicine and it is a main duty of the socialist medical science to prevent the diseases beforehand and promote man’s life and health, and consistently holds fast to the policy of preventive medicine.
According to the Party’s policy of preventive medicine, hygienic and anti-epidemic work, the work of maintaining a sanitary environment and the protection of environment from pollution have been vigorously ensured as the nationwide and social one to improve the life environment and working conditions in favor of the people’s health and longevity and prevent the infiltration of epidemic diseases from outside and occurrence of different diseases with success. Thanks to the section-doctor system in which the doctors take charge of certain inhabitants’ district and give prophylactic treatment, everyone has his or her doctor in charge to protect health by the doctor’s systematic assistance.
Like this, the preventive medicine system in Korea that pays close attention to prevent the people from being taken ill and takes all measures in time clearly proves the superiority of the socialist public health system.
