Chollima Statue, Symbol of DPRK

     The Chollima statue was unveiled on April 15, 1961 on the occasion of the 49th birth anniversary of President Kim Il Sung.

    This monumental sculpture consists of a light grey pedestal and a bronze figure which depicts a worker holding high the Red Letter of the Central Committee of the Workers’ Party of Korea and a peasant woman holding a sheaf of rice in her arms are mounted on Chollima (the legendary winged horse that is said to cover a thousand ri a day) to rush ahead.

    It covers an area of 5 000 square metres and it is 46 meters high. It is the biggest equestrian statue in the world.

    The statue shows the aspiration and passion of the Korean people to consummate the cause of socialism without fail under the leadership of the Workers’ Party of Korea. It also vividly depicts the reality of the DPRK which brings about an epoch-making change under the banner of Juche.

    The Chollima statue that is widely known as a symbol of the DPRK to the world is now standing high in the sky of Pyongyang demonstrating the heroic mettle of the Korean people.
