Taedonggang Culture is the ancient culture appeared in the Taedong River basin centered on Pyongyang.
Kojoson(Ancient Korea) which formed early as the first state of the orient in the world at the beginning of the 30th century B.C. created the ancient culture from the early ages of human history with Pyongyang at the centre.
Excavated remains and relics prove that the basin of the Taedong River was the cradle where the Korean ancestors lived through the successive stages of human evolution such as Pithecanthropus, Paleolithic man, Neolithic man, etc. and it was a historic sacred place that the first culture of humankind was born.
The Taedonggang Culture is reflected by remains and relics of Kojoson discovered in the basin of the River Taedong such as Tomb of King Tangun, a pipha-shaped dagger, a dolmen, ancient castles and village sites that corroborate the state character of King Tangun’s Korea, bronze relics and ancient relics of astronomical chart (dolmen with constellations engraved) that showed the developing appearance of civilized society, etc.

That the basin of the Taedong River was both the cradle of ancient civilization and the center of ancient culture is proved in the fact that the dolmens and the tombs of sarcophagus that represent the culture in the period of King Tangun’s Korea were distributed on the basin of the Taedong River.
100-500 dolmens were found each in North Hamgyong Province and Ryanggang Province and Liaodung region in China, but according to the preliminary data, about 14 000 dolmens were distributed on the basin of the River Taedong.
Furthermore, they found many kinds of dolmens from the early day’s type to the last day’s type and many extra-large dolmens which can never be done in other regions.
Relics of large village ground that are visualized the scene of city were discovered also on the basin of the Taedong River.
Pipha-shaped spearhead and elegant bronze relics which can be made only by the developed bronze casting and processing technology were discovered.
Their discovery shows us that the basin of the Taedong River is the center of a pipha-shaped dagger culture.
Except these, dolmens carving over 40 constellations which could be seen in the night sky of Pyongyang in the age of Tangun Korea were discovered on the basin of the Taedong River.
These are another example of showing that the basin of the Taedong River is the origin of the ancient astronomy of humankind and understanding the development level of Taedonggang culture. It is also known that five cereals’ farming in which the advanced cultivation method was introduced at the earliest period in the world was done on the basin of the Taedong River.
