The Down-with-Imperialism Union formed by President Kim Il Sung on October 17, 1926 was the vanguard revolutionary organization waging the anti-Japanese national liberation struggle with correct fighting program by relying on the masses.
The formation of DIU was the historic declaration that proclaimed a new start of the Korean communist movement and the Korean revolution and served as the starting point of the struggle to found the party of new-type distinctive from the previous parties in Korea, the Juche-type revolutionary party.
With the formation of the DIU, the revolutionary struggle of the Korean people could enter a new road of its development and the Workers’ Party of Korea began to strike its glorious roots.
The DIU serves as the historic root of the WPK because the DIU programme is the basis of the WPK’s program and the principle of independence put forward by the DIU is the principle of the Party building and activity.

The DIU programme was embodied successfully in the programme of the Party and the political programmes of the government of the Republic after liberation, and was further developed in depth in each period and stage of the revolution.
Today the WPK steadfastly holds fast to the principle of independence put forward by the DIU in Party building and activity, thus displaying its might as an invincible Party, the Juche-type revolutionary Party that leads the revolution to victory even in the complex and complicated political conditions.
The DIU serves as the historic root of the WPK also because the revolutionaries of new generation trained by the DIU became the backbones in founding the Party.
The first members of the DIU were the true revolutionaries of Korea who held Kim Il Sung as the center of unity and turned out to the consummation of the cause of the Juche with a “do-or-die” spirit.
The President trained many genuine revolutionaries with them as hardcore element and laid the mass basis for the Party founding.
The rank of the Juche-type revolutionaries was increased in the flames of the arduous anti-Japanese revolutionary struggle and they became the hard-core members, the backbones in realizing the cause of Party founding after liberation.
Like this, the WPK is the revolutionary Party Juche-type which was founded, and has been consolidated and developed with roots in the DIU, in fighting programme, principle of activity and organizational and ideological basis.
The WPK developed with roots in the DIU will, in the future, too, as in the past, record only victory in its history under the leadership of the respected Comrade Kim Jong Un.
