Human love of anti-Japanese heroine Kim Jong Suk

Anti-Japanese heroine Kim Jong Suk embarked on the road of revolution to retrieve the country in her early days although she was a woman. During the days of the revolutionary struggle she fully displayed her traits as a great woman.

President Kim Il Sung recollected in the reminiscence “With the century”.

“Kim Jong Suk lived for other people, not for herself. She devoted her entire life to others. She always took care of other people at her expense.”

The human love is not an abstract concept but a specific thought and feeling expressed in the struggle and the life.

Kim Jong Suk warmly loved the people and devoted her life for them without hesitation.

This is the story when she received the task from President Kim Il Sung to strengthen the revolutionary organizations and expand them to the wide area at home and carried out the missions of underground work in 1937.

At that time the landlord of a village abandoned his girl servant in a straw-thatched hut in the mountain because she caught a fever.

Knowing that fact, Kim Jong Suk ran to the hut and shared board and room with her to nurse her.

Having heard of the fact, the members of the organization called at her and said how to do if she was infected while nursing the hopeless child. And they persuaded Kim Jong Suk to stop sharing room with her even if she tended her.

However Kim Jong Suk said… Go back without worry. How can we win back the country and save the people unless we don’t save her from death, being afraid of our lives?

Thanks to her devoted efforts and utmost sincerity the miserable girl was finally rescued.

Here is another story. Having heard of the news that the enemy invaded the guerrilla zone in mid-October of one year, Kim Jong Suk carried harvested crop to the safe place with the people and ran to the shelter with the last sheaf of bean on her back. At that time a woman burst into tears, saying that she left her 5-year-old child at the edge of a field.

Immediately Kim Jong Suk ran to the field which the enemy invaded.

The enemy’s sounds of shot were so fierce that the people were very worried about her. After a good while there was a looks of Kim Jong Suk who was running with the child on her back from the woods on the opposite side.

She lured the enemy in the opposite way for safety of the people.

After some time the enemy’s shot stopped and the villagers ran up to her. She was smiling at them with the child in her arms, wet with perspiration. It was the smile of relief that she saved the people and the child with her sacrifice.

Kim Jong Suk devoted for the people even at the risk of herself.

She also firmly trusted the revolutionary comrades and devoted her all for them.

A friend indeed is a friend in need.

This is the story when she was in Nengzhiying, Sandaowan because she was summoned to the Young Communist League of Yanji.

There narrow-minded chauvinists and factional flunkyists were executing the steadfast revolutionaries at random, saying that they struggled against the “Minsaengdan” forged for the purpose of destroying the revolutionary organizations by the enemy.

The chauvinists detained the accomplices of “Minsaengdan” in prison and gave them no food, saying that they might starve to death. They also branded those who cast eyes of sympathy to the accomplices as counterrevolutionaries. In such a gruesome atmosphere nobody dared to think of helping them.

However Kim Jong Suk risked her life to save the comrades with a firm faith that it was a way of defending the Korean revolution to save the precious comrades with whom she overcame all kinds of difficulties and fought on the road of revolution, sharing even roots of plants.

She first gave food to the comrades and let a woman member of the Young Communist League obtain medicine to send it to them.

The comrades in prison could be saved from starvation and death of illness by devoted efforts of

Kim Jong Suk. But they didn’t know who did such a thing by which one might be branded as “Minsaengdan” to death if this had been disclosed.

It was the day when the enemy’s punitive troops surged there that they knew about the fact.

That day Kim Jong Suk who was boiling gruel for lunch of the guerillas immediately climbed up the mountain with a boiling pot of gruel on her head. The guerillas who had climbed up the height found her and ran to her. They were the comrades who had been in prison on the false charge of involvement in the “Minsaengdan”. When the enemy invaded, they climbed up the mountain to help the guerillas fight against the enemy.

They were amazed, putting down the gruel pot, for the head of Kim Jong Suk was burnt by the pot so that it was terribly swollen.

After the battle was over, she served the hot gruel out of the pot to the guerillas and the comrades who were branded as “Minsaengdan”. But those who were branded as “Minsaengdan” tried to slip away.

    Just then she told them.

…You are afraid I will be branded as ‘Minsaengdan’ if you take this gruel, but never mind. What guilt will it be to serve gruel to the revolutionary comrades?

If you were really involved in ‘Minsaengdan’, you would go over to the enemy, thinking that it was better, let alone battle.

But all of you took an active part in the battle against the punitive troops with the guerillas without departing from the rank. How can we say that such comrades are involved in ‘Minsaengdan’? You can never be “Minsaengdan”… And she served them gruel.

The love that Kim Jong Suk gave the comrades who were suspected as “Minsaengdan” was a firm belief in the comrades to go along the road of revolution to the end true to the oath made to President

Kim Il Sung even in any severe trials and a warm affection that heated their minds.

The guerillas swallowed hot tears and decided to fight for the Korean revolution to the end, keeping in mind the boundless comradeship of Kim Jong Suk who devoted herself for comrades with a firm belief in the comrades.

The ardent human love of Kim Jong Suk was also expressed in the devoted service to the comrades and the people.

The anti-Japanese armed struggle during which the guerillas marched on, defeating the attack of the enemy many times a day in the biting cold of around 40 degrees centigrade below zero was indeed bloody battle by which they had to brave death every moment.

But Kim Jong Suk always became a real parent and sister of the guerillas even in such hard trials and took care of their life. Although male guerillas sank down on the ground due to the extreme fatigue and physical exhaustion when they were ordered to rest, she patched up their clothes, dried their shoes and devoted herself to cook a meal and boil water in winter when everything was covered with snow, regardless of her fatigue.

Everyone can not do it if he or she has no readiness and will of devotion to comrades.

After national liberation she visited the construction site of the Pothong river improvement, factories and fishing and rural villages to spend day and night of devotion for the people who turned out in the building of the new democratic Korea.

Indeed the anti-Japanese heroine Kim Jong Suk was a great revolutionary and human who devoted her life for the revolutionary comrades and people with the warm love and spirit of devotion.

Thus she enjoyed boundless respect and trust from the comrades and people. She is always remaining in the minds of our people and shining as a paragon of a great revolutionary at present, in future and for ever.
