Unjong tea is made of leaves from a tea tree that was acclimatized from a high tea tree of the same species to a shrub. However, tastes are different according to their growing districts.
Unjong tea is specified into different names after their growing districts such as Kangryong green tea, Kangryong black tea, Kosong green tea, Kosong black tea and so on.

In recent years the DPRK increases Unjong tea production every year. The annual product in 2019 was increased by 40 times as compared to that in 2014.
Kangryong green tea and other tea products of Unjong tea system, which have international competitiveness, are sold and served in different commercial and service organs and their needs are increasing day by day. Tea culture is flourishing in the DPRK.
