    Yaksandongdae is a scenic spot located in the middle part of Nyongbyon County, North Phyongan Province, DPRK.

    Yaksandongdae is associated with immortal revolutionary facts of which President Kim Il Sung and Kim Jong Il who visited it in October 1949. There is a monument to dedicated poem erected to convey long the revolutionary history of the President.

    Yaksandongdae rises on the river shore 2 km apart to the west from the seat of Nyongbyon. From olden times Yaksandongdae, famous for azaleas in spring, has been one of the eight scenic spots in North and South Phyongan Provinces and Jagang Province for its beautiful scenery and view. “Song of Phyongbuknyongbyon” also proves that Yaksandongdae is a scenic spot.

    Yaksandongdae was refurbished into a wonderful cultural recreation center for the young and working people. It distinguishes itself by beautiful scenic beauties such as peaks and rocks that are not so steep but curious in shape, thick forest, different flowers blooming according to seasons and historic remains. Yaksandongdae is especially beautiful in spring for azaleas that cover the whole mountain. Thick green in summer, maples in autumn and view of snow in winter are fascinated, indeed.

    Adjacent to the highest peak there are unusually white and clean rocks including the one called Kobuk Pawi(tortoise rock). The Tortoise Rock catches the visitors’ admiration. A stone is on the rock. The stone looks like as if two tortoises were sitting side by side. A plate-shaped granite were weathered to form such a curious rock as Tortoise Rock catching the people’s eyes. The rock is designated as a living monument of the country to be protected and taken care of.

    Yaksandongdae has many relics. There are the historic places associated with the Korean people’s patriotic struggle, thus bettering natural beauty of the scenic spot.
