King Tongmyong(Ko Jumong)--Founder of Koguryo

    King Tongmyong is founder king who built Koguryo, the most powerful country in the Korean history of the middle ages. He ruled Koguryo from 277 B.C. to 259 B.C.

    King Tongmyong was good at martial art and archery from his childhood. At the early years of 7, he made a bow and arrow and hit all the marks he shot. Later, he killed two birds with an arrow and hit at a time a small ring which was hung hundred steps away.

    At that time in Puyo, a master archer was called jumong. He was called Jumong.

    He was brilliant at archery in his childhood and became a man of great strength in his youth days. Puyo King and his 7 princes were so jealous of Jumong’s talents, unusual valor and strength that they planned to kill Jumong.

    Jumong left Puyo toward the south together with those sharing the same will while repulsing the warriors’ pursuit. In the southern area, he became one of the rulers in 5 Kuryo prefectures, hand in hand with the local self-governing forces.

    In 277 B.C. he renamed the country Koguryo and established feudal ruling system and order.

    He paid deep attention to expanding the territory to integrate several neighboring countries in 10 years and build a large country.

    He became the founder of Koguryo, the first feudal state in Korea, and a founder-king who laid foundations for strong Koguryo.

    Koguryo founder king Ko Jumong was later called King Tongmyong.
