DPRK’s Tree Planting Day

     Tree provides man with good environment and economic profit.

    Hence, many countries in the world set day of tree planting and plant trees on the day.

    “Forest week” in Canada, “pupils’ tree planting day” in Iceland, “national day of tree” in France and “national tree planting day” in India are typical in the world.

    March 2 is the DPRK’s tree planting day.

    On March 2, 1946, President Kim Il Sung climbed Moran Hill which was devastated due to the severe plunder during the period of the Japanese colonial rule and unfolded a grand plan of cultivating devastated mountains, forests and the scene of the country.

    The DPRK set the significant day when the President kindled the work of tree planting as the tree planting day and conducts the campaign for planting trees through a mass movement.

    Every tree planting day, they plant trees which are good in kind and big in economic profitability everywhere of the country.

    Functionaries are active in planting trees and not only the workers, peasants and office workers but also the students and pupils make efforts to plant as much trees as they can.

    Many trees of good kind are planted in the vicinity of railways to protect them and create beautiful environment and the provinces and cities plant trees and flowers to retain the features and scenic beauty of their regions.

    Campaign of planting over 5 fruit trees in each dwelling house in countryside is conducted perseveringly and the trees planted on all mountains on the principle of right tree on right soil.

    Almost 80% of the whole territory is mountainous in Korea.

    Creating timber forests, oil-producing woods, wild fruits forests, chestnut forests, pulpwood forests and the forests for raw materials for paper which are useful for the economic construction and the improvement of the people’s livelihood are the main in tree planting of the DPRK..

    In addition, they put stress on the production of saplings and the protection of forests.

    Thanks to the strenuous tree planting campaign, cities in the parks come into existence, number of villages including the “Persimmon tree village” and “Apricot village” where the people plant and cultivate lots of fruit trees increase and all mountains are being covered with thick forest.

    The respected Marshal Kim Jong Un who pays deep attention to the tree planting ardently appealed in the New Year’s Address of 2014 to conduct an energetic mass-based tree-planting drive to cover all the mountains with thick forests.

    Thanks to the Korean people’s devotion who have turned out actively in the tree-planting drive in response to the Marshal’s appeal, mountains of the country will become more green and thick.
