It is important for every country to make the first step of the revolution. In particular, how a vanguard organization whose mission is to organize and lead the revolutionary struggle makes a start, what goal it sets and how it arouses the masses of the people to attain the goal is an important problem related to the destiny and future of the revolution.

In this sense, the formation of the Down-with-Imperialism Union (DIU) that heralded the start of the Korean revolution was the birth of the great spirit that enabled all the Korean people, who had groaned under the rule of the Japanese imperialists, to accept it as their own and make up their minds to dedicate their all to it.

At the meeting for forming the DIU on October 17, 1926, President Kim Il Sung said that free development of the nation and happiness of the oppressed working masses were inconceivable unless they overthrew imperialism. He said that it was necessary to make the Korean people lead free and happy life by overthrowing the piratic Japanese imperialists and achieving independence of Korea and make the oppressed working masses throughout the world live in freedom and happiness by accomplishing with success the sacred cause of overthrowing all imperialisms on the globe.

There exists hostile contradiction between the imperialists and the people in colonial countries as imperialism is a vampire living at the cost of their sweat and blood and the colonies are the lifeline of the imperialists, and such contradiction could be settled only by overthrowing imperialism. Accordingly, Kim Il Sung put forward anti-imperialism, sovereignty, independence and socialism as noble ideals.

There were many grave trials and difficulties in the Korean revolution and generations of the revolution have been replaced several times, during the long period of a century. However, the Juche cause and the ideal of independence have been reliably carried forward without any vacillation through centuries.

Steadfast spirit of the anti-imperialist independence and conviction in the victory of socialism serve as the powerful ideological and mental strength that enables the DPRK people to display huge strength that other people cannot imagine, and win immortal victory that no people in any country can achieve, while braving all severe trials.

This is the truth proved by the sacred history of the Korean revolution.

The ideals and spirit of the DIU are displaying great vitality even today.

The DPRK advances vigorously despite unprecedented trials and difficulties under the energetic leadership of respected Comrade Kim Jong Un who cherishes strong pluck and courage that no one can match, and steadfast faith and will to turn the DPRK into a powerful country where the people enjoy all blessings.

The path indicated by the ideals of the DIU is the most correct one to be covered by the DPRK and the spirit of the DIU is the most powerful weapon for victory in the revolution—this is the historic review of the Korean revolution that marks the hundredth anniversary of its beginning while covering the grim and adverse path.
