October 8, 1997 is the day when Kim Jong Il was elected as General Secretary of the Workers’ Party of Korea.
The historic course of Kim Jong Il’s leadership of the WPK was the arduous and trying period when the internal and external situations of the revolution were very complicated and the Party and the revolution were faced with more difficult and huger tasks than any other periods. In the grim period when the fierce class struggle of whether socialism or capitalism in the protracted confrontation with the world imperialist allied forces, Kim Jong Il stood in the van the WPK to defend the banner of the revolution, banner of socialism, and led the Korean revolution and construction towards ceaseless upswing and brilliant victory while turning misfortune into blessing, adversity into prosperity.
He developed the WPK into a party who realized brilliantly the cause of immortalizing the leader, into a motherly party who forms a harmonious whole with the people and serves them and into an invincible party with steel-strong discipline and fighting capacity, thus achieving the most distinguished exploit of having demonstrated fully the dignity and prestige of Kim Il Sung’s Korea.
He saw that all the Party activities were directed to and run through with the undertaking to hold President Kim Il Sung, the founder of the Party and founding father of socialist Korea, in high esteem and bring his desires into reality. He also saw that the President is always with the DPRK people as in his life time and his revolutionary life and immortal exploits are handed down forever to posterities.
For Kim Jong Il, his people were the god and a mentor and their will and desire were a starting basis in formulating all lines and policies.
As it has the immortal revolutionary life of Kim Jong Il who loved the people passionately and devoted his all in order to take responsible care of their destiny and future, the WPK has added lustre to its name as a genuine motherly party and the people regarded the red flag of the Party as the bosom of their benevolent mother.
Unfathomable are devotion and labour made by Kim Jong Il in remarkably increasing the Party’s organizing ability and fighting strength.
He took revolutionary measures to turn the Party work into the work with people and the Party’s leadership over the revolution and construction into political guidance and policy-oriented guidance, establish the revolutionary Party life system, and make the Party organizations intensify guidance over its members’ Party life.
Kim Jong Il saw that the revolutionary atmosphere of unconditionally accepting and thoroughly implementing the Party’s lines and policies and the steel-like discipline of reporting all the problems in time to the Party Central Committee and dealing with them in accordance with its decisions was established throughout the Party ranging from the centre down to the lowest level. His leadership resulted in a stirring reality in which the people’s inexhaustible strength is fully displayed in all annals and the Party’s decisions are translated into reality.
Kim Jong Il’s Juche-oriented Party-building ideas and exploits are carried forward and developed with success thanks to respected Comrade Kim Jong Un.
The future of Juche Korea will be bright and rosy for all ages as it has Kim Jong Un who strengthens and develops the WPK into the most dignified and powerful invincible Party while holding President Kim Il Sung and Chairman Kim Jong Il in high esteem forever and brilliantly carries forward their immortal Party-building ideas and exploits.
