“Rossiskaya Gazeta”, the government organ of the Russian Federation, carried an article under the title “The DPRK Greets the 78th Anniversary of Defeating Japan” on August 13, 2023. The article reads:

President Kim Il Sung founded the Anti-Japanese People’s Guerilla Army on April 25, 1932. At that time, the army was a small-sized one with approximately 100 guerillas. It did not have any home front or the support of a regular army. Its guerillas challenged the Japanese army, equipped with modern weapons such as tanks, warplanes and warships, with rifles and pistols.

President Kim Il Sung enhanced self-consciousness and sense of organization among the masses of the people, thus rousing them to an all-people resistance against Japanese imperialism.

… The Koreans were united as one with the Association for the Restoration of the Fatherland as a centre to make preparations for an all-people resistance according to the plan of President Kim Il Sung.

… Japan declared an unconditional surrender on August 15, 1945.
