Chairman Kim Jong Il climbed the top of Mt. Paektu in May 1972.
Having made the way through fierce snow storm to the top of Mt. Paektu in the van, Kim Jong Il said that President Kim Il Sung had overcome numerous and unimaginable hardships to liberate the country.
Saying that the revolutionary spirit of Paektu is an unyielding offensive spirit of weathering all difficulties and a staunch militant spirit of standing up again no matter how often one may fall down, Kim Jong Il said that one can run with smile through battle fields where bullets are raining and one can sing revolutionary songs even on the scaffold if he has the revolutionary spirit of Paektu.
That day Kim Jong Il said that it was the decision he made on the top of Mt. Paektu and the words he wanted to say to officials accompanied to live and struggle forever in the revolutionary spirit of Paektu.
His words were a firm declaration of faith to brave all difficulties in the revolutionary spirit of Paektu and achieve victory in the revolutionary cause of Juche.
