On June 4, 1948 when he gave a field guidance to South Hamgyong Province, Kim Il Sung visited Hungnam Fertilizer Factory without any rest even in lunchtime.
Examining a design for houses brought by an official of the factory, Kim Il Sung took account of workers residential quarter and structures of their houses.
Getting near to a window and looking out of the window, Kim Il Sung said… Our workers led hard life without houses in the period of the colonial rule of Japanese imperialism. The air in the quarter is bad because of smoke from the factory. The bad air will give bad influence to bringing up of children. Houses should be built in a smoke-free place.
All people as well as the official were astonished.
They did not think that houses should be built in the other place because of the air even though they had been living there for a long time.
Learning that the workers covered floors with rush mats, Kim Il Sung… Houses should be built with floor-heated rooms and those built in the Japanese way of living be remodeled in keeping with the Korean people’s taste, in the future.
He continued to say… We should solve the problem of the workers’ houses which are needed now and take good care of their life so that the workers of the factory can feel no inconveniences but take the lead in implementing the plan of the year.

Being told that Kim Il Sung chose again as their residential in a place with fresh air, the workers of the factory turned out as one in the efforts to pay up his love.
