Question of independent subject of history is the one raised in relation with the development level of the popular masses, the subject of history, and their position and role in the development of history.
The independent subject of history is the popular masses who carve out history and their destiny in an independent and creative way.
Leader Kim Jong Il said.
“For the popular masses to be an independent subject of the revolution, they must be united into one organization with one ideology under the guidance of the party and the leader.”
The masses of the people are the subject of history, but they do not always become the independent subject of history that carves out their destiny in an independent and creative way. In the society ruled by the exploiting class, the popular masses were exploited and oppressed by minority of ruling class and they did not hold the position of masters of history. In the society, the masses of the people could not but bear a heavy burden of making history, not according to their own will but, in most cases, according to the will of the ruling class. The masses who have such status cannot claim to be the independent subject of history.
It was not until the advanced working class emerged and the working masses were awakened and organized under the influence of its revolutionary idea of independence that the independent subject of history was able to make its full appearance in history.
Correct political leadership is the main in enabling the popular masses to become the independent subject of history. Under the correct political leadership the popular masses are awakened that they are the masters of history and their destiny and united in an organized manner so as to become the independent subject of history.
Leadership of the party and leader over the popular masses arises as an important issue in the revolutionary movement carried out by the broad people.
Only when they are led by the correct leadership of the party and the leader, can the masses of the people achieve national liberation, class emancipation, built socialist society with success and properly administer the society by waging severe and complicated revolutionary struggle to transform nature and society.
If the popular masses are to be the independent subject of history, socialist system should be established.
Socialist system fully provides all social conditions necessary for awakening the popular masses ideologically and rallying them in an organized way. The popular masses have the rights to groping for, disseminating and acquiring the revolutionary idea as genuine masters of society and intensify organizational training in certain political organizations, which is superiority of socialist system.
The popular masses achieve single-minded unity of whole society and remarkably build up the might of independent subject of history in socialist system.
