The guiding principle to realize independence in the economy is the principle of self-sufficiency in the economy.

“In order to embody the Juche idea in full measure, one must also implement the principle of self-reliance in the economy.”
To implement the principle of self-sufficiency in the economy means building an independent national economy. In other words, it means building an economy which is free from dependence on others and which stands on its own feet, an economy which serves one’s own people and develops on the strength of the resources of one’s own country and by the efforts of ones’ people.
The revolutionary essence of the principle of self-sufficiency in the economy is that one builds the economy or runs the economy on one’s efforts without depending on others to satisfy the material needs of the country and people.
